The first piece of footage from Sony’s PMW-F3 has hit the net. This is a short film shot on Ultra Primes and recorded to an SRW-1 deck (approx. $50K) in HDCAM-SR via the 10 bit 4:2:2 HD-SDI in linear colour space with a Cine Gamma curve. read more…
This is a WWII short film done on Canon VDSLRs including the Canon T2i. It gives you an idea of what can be done with color correction. Shot on a Canon 24-105mm f4L on a Merlin steadicam. Here is a clip shot on the 7D.
This is some fantastic footage of the full moon shot with the Rebel T2i on a Canon 100-400mm L at f/5.6 and ISO 200-800. The T2i’s crop mode was used for the closeup.
Footage of the Pacific Ocean shot in Pacifica CA. This is from the same guys doing “The Bridge”. Lenses used: 18-55mm f3.5, 17-40mm f4L and 70-200mm f4L.
One of the first Canon T2i tests. Shot at ISO 100 – 400 with Canon 50mm f1.8 and Tokina 12mm – 24mm f4.
These are not likely camera moves you will use but show the level of jello effect in the Canon 550D T2i. Shot on a 70-200mm IS II from Canon, which has the field of view equivalent of a 320mm FF35mm telephoto lens on this 1.6 crop camera (this was shot at maximum focal length).
Here is some lowlight footage shot on the Canon 550D T2i:
Based on the clips we have seen so far I would say the Canon 7D by far offers the best looking moving images in a camera under $2k.
It appears the jello effect is still there in the 7D but an improvement on the Canon 5D Mark II. I’m curious how many of you think this level of jello is a problem.
Philip Bloom got his hands on a 7D and has started uploading videos on twitter. You can read his thoughts on the 7D here: www.philipbloom.co.uk This video was shot on an FF35 35mm lens at 24p, f1.4, and 1/50th shutter speed: www.twitvid.com/5F538
The jello effect is probably the toughest obstacle that we have to work around when using VDSLRs. The 7D is an improvement on the Canon 5D Mark II but jello is still something to watch for.
This video is not something you would want to do on a real shoot but gives a sense of what movement we will need to avoid.
This is Canon’s promotional 7D video. A couple tilt shift lenses were used: TS-E90, TS-E45 and TS-E24. www.web.canon.jp/eos7d/Download Original Canon 7D .movs
