The PMW-F3 is Sony’s new S35 replacement for the EX3. The body alone will retail for $16,000 so it is more then 3 times the price of the Panasonic AF100. It supports interchangeable lens mounts, records to SxS Cards at 35 Mbps at 4:2:0 8-bit in XDCAM EX format, and has HD-SDI dual-link outputs at the rear for external recording.
Philip Bloom has just done a field of view comparison on the Panasonic AF100 and Sony F3. The AF100 has a slightly smaller sensor at micro 4/3 as compared to the full S35 sensor on the Sony F3.
Here are a couple clips showing off the low light capabilities of the Sony F3. This one was shot in existing light only. Behind the scenes stills here: www.stargatestudios.net/channel/?p=948
Another short film:

And this is the official Sony launch video:
The first piece of footage from Sony’s PMW-F3 has hit the net. This is a short film shot on Ultra Primes and recorded to an SRW-1 deck (approx. $50K) in HDCAM-SR via the 10 bit 4:2:2 HD-SDI in linear colour space with a Cine Gamma curve. read more…
