I saw the lizard footage from the scarlet, very awesome. I can’t wait until more footage is posted from an actual scarlet model that’s going to be actually released. I just wish RED had more concrete dates for product releases. : [

Watch for RED’s Oct. 30th announcement. They will be solidifying the Scarlet and Epic release dates.

Hi Shiva, RED will be announcing the final prices and release dates on Oct. 30th. Until then we have to guess. RED had said before that the fixed Scarlet would be around $3,750 while the 3k brain alone would be $2,500. The lens you chose for the cinema Scarlet will be the largest chunk of the price for sure. The S16 Angenieux 17.5-70mm F2.2 is probably one of the best low price matches for the 3k Scarlet and can be found for around $800. High end S16 zooms can cost many thousands of dollars, though. Hopefully we will hear something about the miniRED lenses this Friday. If they are reasonably priced they will probably be the best option for the 3k Scarlet.

RED’s original plan was to mass produce the 3k Scarlets and sell them at places like B&H Photo so their wouldn’t be a long wait to purchase one. We will find out in 2 days if that is still the case.

thanks for your reply and Can you pls suggest me, to shoot a feature film and to substitute RED ONE, which of this scarlet I should opt for. what all the accessories I should buy along to make movie. To buy RED ONE I have the shortage of money, but at the same time I don’t want to compromise on the quality of the movie. I want to make Good quality movie with cheaper price camera (than RED ONE).
    Pls help

For making a feature film I think the 5k S35 Scarlet is probably your best bet. It doesn’t have all of the aspect ratio and framerate options that the Epic and RED One have but should have exactly what you need for a feature (S35 DoF and 24fps). No idea what it will cost at this point although RED had previously listed the brain at $7k. We should know the exact prices tomorrow (Oct. 30th).

when are they (RED COmpany) releasing ’5k S35 Scarlet’ If it is today where it will be mentioned and total body and brain how much it may come upto (apprx). I really thankful for you being patient for all questions.

I really doubt anything is ready to release today. RED has said they will have some members of the community beta test the cameras before they ship the final versions. Pricing for the 2/3″ and S35 DSMCs and the modules should be released today.

Hey, does anyone know how much the lenses will cost that can be used with the 3k Scarlet? Also how much will the Scarlet 2/3? 3k will cost? Because before my mind was focused on the fixed lens but then my mates told me they would want to do movie/film projects as well. So i would want a scarlet that i can have the ability to change the sensor/lens sizes for different scenes.

Is there a page where it illustrates the different sensor/lens sizes?

    Kind Regards,

    Jay

The miniRED primes will be $950 per lens and will probably be the best looking option for the 3k Cinema Scarlet. The 3k brain will be $2,750. I listed out some of the packages and what they would cost in this reduser thread: http://www.reduser.net/38432

Here are some of the lens options for the 3k Scarlet: http://www.camerarentalz.com/scarlet-23-3k-lenses/ The Angenieux 17.5-70mm F2.2 zoom is probably one of the cheaper options at around $900.

Friend of mine who runs a RED rental shop says there will be NO WAY that the scarlet comes out this
    year 2010.

I bet him a iPad that scarlets will be out by End of AUG.

Looks like I owe him an iPad.

RED has missed the original Scarlet ship date by over a year so I think some people make predictions like that so they don’t get their hopes up. I just got back from NAB in Vegas and got to hold a working Epic prototype (touchscreen and everything was working) so I can tell you shipping cameras are definitely getting close. RED seems to think their ASICs are ready for prime time and they were definitely the biggest hurdle. Just tell your friend you meant Epics would be out by the end of Aug. and you might be able to keep the iPad. ; ) I would say there is a very good chance Scarlets will be out before 2010 is over, though.
