S35 Scarlet (Now Epic-S) Coming Before April
Jim Jannard has just posted that he expects the S35 Scarlet to ship before April 2010. Since this is the third Scarlet version in line to ship, we can expect the 2/3″ fixed Scarlet and Cinema Scarlets even before that.
RED does not have a good record when it comes to predicting ship dates but now that Epic is actually going into production hopefully this time they are more accurate.
Red will only last if Jim Jannard steps back from the marking and promotions, and product release date announcements…They need adults up there with patience and discipline…Just the other day he claimed the s35 scarlet would be out by April…a few days later the s35 scarlet doesn’t even exist anymore!… Please I would never invest in a company run this way…”billionaire genius” or not…
There are definitely people out there who don’t like RED’s way of doing business. I don’t think it is accurate to say RED won’t last if they don’t change there ways though. In the end, once cameras are available and marketing is done, people will chose the best camera for their project. The fact that big budget films like “Social Network”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and now “The Hobbit” and “Spiderman” chose RED means the actual cameras are competitive with the best and won’t likely disappear anytime soon.
Fortunately we have choices and many people will chose cameras from Panasonic, Sony, and ARRI. They conduct business in a predictable manor that is attractive to some. If RED was following their example, Epic and Scarlet wouldn’t even be announced until a week before the first Epic-M was ready to ship. Personally I prefer being allowed a peak at RED’s development cycle and the love the opportunity to give feedback. Gotta love the choices available these days.
is it a safe bet to just stop giving out release dates because RED can never make up there mind on when they are going to release this camera? Im starting to believe its all pipe dreams. one day its the Scarlet, the next its the Epic-S, RED.com says its still the Scarlet, its coming out April 2010, its almost Oct 2010 & theres still no idea when the release is going to be .. i want this camera to come out as much as everybody else but can we just place all the cards on the table and ask; “does it even exist?” “is it EVER going to come out?” .. i think this are legit questions.
Actually it looks like Scarlet is shipping in just over a month. Jannard is announcing it will ship and all of the final details including price on Nov. 3rd @6pm. An hour later @7pm online orders for Scarlet will open. He says there are some surprise improvements but we have no idea what they are. Maybe it will ship with the next generation Monstro sensor.
There is no word on Epic-S (old S35 Scarlet). My guess is they are waiting to ship it until they can include the Monstro sensor with it.
