The ’3k for $3k’ was announced at NAB 2008, but that was before RED made their November 13th announcement, moving to the modular DSMC system and 4 different Scarlet cameras. The most similar of the current Scarlet’s to the original announcement is the 8 x fixed zoom kit which RED said would be around $3,750 with the modules necessary to shoot moving footage.

RED has just taken down all their pricing and Jannard will announce the release schedule and final prices at the end of this month (October). No one knows if prices will go up or down. I guess it depends if they want to compete for Canon 7D/MarkII customers.

Hey Justin, thanks for replying. You have been very helpful. I am very excited about this Scarlet camera as i have found out about it recently, did some research and found out according to what Ted said the Scarlet target price is under $3000. When the cameras are released, is there going to be like a bundle offer or something? I’m a newbie at this and i require a full list of the parts that i would need to shoot a film. I saw one of the videos on youtube of Ted saying people can get it out from the box and start shooting, did he mean shooting still shot or recording footage?

Hi Jay, the Mysterium-X is RED’s 2nd generation sensor that will be in the Scarlet and Epic cameras. It will also be available as a 4.5k upgrade to RED One cameras. The Mysterium-Monstro is their 3rd generation sensor that will be used in the larger cameras: the FF35 Scarlet and Epic and the 645 and 617 Epics. RED has said the Mysterium-X should have around a stop more of dynamic range then the 1st gen Mysterium and will be rated somewhere between ISO 500 – 800.

Can someone please provide me some information about this Mysterium X sensor? I would like to know what it is? Is it for Red Scarlet? Is it something separate you buy etc?
