    Hi Justin,

I’m embarking on some international travel soon and I’m planning on buying the T2i to shoot both photo and video while I’m about. While I’m told the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens is absolutely excellent, this trip is making me strapped for cash and I’m wondering if i could get by with the 1.8 (much cheaper). Can you see a substantial difference between these these two lenses on the T2i? Do you think the 1.4 would really be worth the extra cash for a such a trip?

If it makes a difference, I’ll be traveling mostly to the Middle East and India where it will be quite hot and dusty. Just trying to come up with the cheapest, most efficient kit I can easily travel with…

    Cheers,
    M

As far as the f-stop goes I don’t think the .4 difference will make or break a shot. The t2i sensor is very sensitive in low light so opening up really wide isn’t as essential as it was on older sensors. As far as glass quality I am not familiar with the Canon f1.8. I know everyone seems to love the f1.4 though.

We actually often use Nikon lenses on our t2i and use this adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Nikon-Canon-Camera-Adapter/dp/B001G4QXLE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271653297&sr=8-1 You can find the Nikkor f1.4 on Ebay for about $50. There is a tiny bit of play in the lens when using these adapters but we have found them to work great image wise.
